Firstly, decide on the theme you want. Then what colours will represent that theme best. This is the foundation to decorating your lounge. Whenever you go shopping, you will be focussed on only finding items that suit this theme. For example, if you decide on a Parisian theme, the colours you might select could be soft pink and cream. Find décor that is related to the Parisian theme and that are either soft pink or cream in colour. Find a corner suite that is cream, paint the walls a cream shade, find Parisian paintings and curtains, and select a coffee table that enhances this theme. A lovely pink and beige carpet will round off the look.
Select ornaments and décor items with the theme and colour scheme in mind. You might be attracted to a vase that is on sale, but is it the colour of your lounge? If it is not, then leave it. You must remain focussed. Maybe you’ve selected an oriental theme that is gold and red with a touch of black. Perhaps you see a set of artificial red flowers in a gold ornamental vase with black patterns on it. This will suit the theme. Anything you consider must match the theme, such as the paintings, vases, ornaments, picture frames, chandeliers and centrepieces.
Select lounge furniture based on the theme. If you are going for a modern relaxed natural theme then your colours might be brown and beige with a touch of silver. This is an easy theme because you have many options available to you. You have many brown lounge suites available to you. Add beige scatter cushions for the secondary colour. A brown wood coffee table with a brown and beige carpet will complement the lounge suite. Paint the walls beige and hang brown curtains with silver patterns. For the walls, you can add your photos to brown picture frames and create a photo wall of memories.
